The music of Manos Hadjidakis has a special quality that is found in the works of great composers, but also in traditional music: the quality of being accurate in its meaning, yet without complexity. Even if the harmonic, contrapuntal and orchestrational landscape plays a major role in the final result, the beautiful melodies stand by themselves. They can be sung à capella, played on the guitar or the piano and immediately communicate with the listener, transmitting a vibrant emotional message. This was one of the main problems I had to overcome when arranging thesesongs: why add material that may be unnecessary or even harmful to the song? The other problem I faced, was that several of these songs have magnificent lyrics, some of them written by the composer himself, and these – obviously - cannot be reproduced in a guitar version. In some cases, the solution I found was to create versions inspired by the meaning of the lyrics.
