Since the classical guitar inherited J. S. Bachs' Lute Works it was expected that these works would be the guitarists' main choice of repertoire.
If the music of J. S. Bach holds an eminent position in the repertoire of the other musical instruments, for the guitar (an instrument with a very limited repertoire) it is a god sent gift.
We often wonder which would have been the image of the classical guitar and which could have been its position in the world of music without this priceless gift. This is why J. S. Bach's music is for the guitarists a measure to evaluate their quality.
There has been an effort in the present edition to compromise two goals. In one hand to respect the music by making the least possible "discounts" which, however, are inevitable to exist in such transcription and on the other hand to propose a rational (as for as technique is concerned) fingering in favor of the flow of the playing.
Furthermore there are no subnotes (with two or three alternatives) as far as notes and fingering are concerned which usually results in the confusion of the executer. Only one final solution has been chosen, the one which we beliere to be closer to the original music and is more natural and convenient to the interpreters' technique.
