This edition is divided in four sections. The first section of seven preludes BWV 924-931 comes from the little clavier book for Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. They are original Bach works composed in 1720. The preludes no 3 BWV 927 and no 6 BWV 925 which were later inserted by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach were perhaps his own compositions.
The six preludes of the second section BWV 933-938 (1717-1720) were probably arranged by Bach himself in systematical order according to key and difficulty.
The six preludes of the third section BWV 939-943 (1717), BWV 999 (1720) have been taken from the 57 manuscripts or fasciles of Johann Peter Kelner (1705-1772) a pupil of J. S. Bach.
The fourth section includes one two-part fughetta in C minor BWV 961, two three-part fugues BWV 952-953, two preludes with fughettas BWV 902a, BWV 899 and two preludes with fugues BWV 900, BWV 895.
