This piece is the seventh double concerto that I have written. The remaining six are Events I, for violin, piano and orchestra (1967-68), the Double Concerto for Percussion (1977), Concerto for Harp and Marimba (1997), Concerto for two pianos (1998), Concerto for 2 Violins and Strings (2003) and the Double Concerto for Oboe, Bassoon and Orchestra (2009).
The part that soloists perform is comprised of 12 small pieces, which are linked together with «orchestral bridges». These pieces are really virtuosic and they are written in simple forms (similar to those of Inventions). They are based on short ideas and their continuous mutation.
The string orchestra, apart from connecting the 12 songs, interferes, comments and emphasizes on the soloists’ ideas, using a rich palette of techniques and instrumental timbre.
The piece was written for my friends and associates, Virginia Amariotaki and Manolis Vrontinos.
