‘Triptych for String Quartet’ was composed in Santorini, Greece in July 2008.
The piece does not follow the classic form of a string quartet, as it consists of three parts, which are heard ‘attacca’, without distinct pauses.
It is characterized by using a musical theme, which is processed continuously, in such a manner, as to create a range of different emotions and colors and, simultaneously, the sense of unity to the audience.
It starts with broad melodic lines and a rather slow, yet impressive, tempo. Subsequently, followed by minor melodic and rhythmic patterns that eventually collide in some places with the original theme, but reappear persistently in several parts of the work, sometimes unchanged and others in variations. At the end, there is a complete decomposition of the persistent first musical theme through an intense rhythmic pattern.
