Michalis Travlos was born in Pireas in 1950. He began his music studies at the National Conservatoire under Michali Vourtsi. In 1972, having completed his classical studies in theory and harmony he was forced to interrupt his studies due to compulsory military duties. From 1975 to 1980 he studied composition at the Music Academy of the former West Berlin with Isang Yun. Since his graduation he has been living in Athens working as a freelance and professor of the advanced theoretical music courses and composition.
His works have been performed in various countries: in Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Poland, Spain, England, Yugoslavia, Holland etc. He has received various awards for his work:
▪ 1st Prize at the International Competition of Composition Jeunesses Musicales - Belgrade for his composition Eniwetock (for orchestra).
▪ 1st Prize at the International Competition in Stuttgart for his composition Metathesis (for string quartet).
▪ Prince Piere de Monaco Musical Award for his composition Prism (for orchestra).
▪ 2nd Prize at the Competition held by the Ministry of Culture for his composition Metathesis (for string quartet).
▪ 2nd Prize at the Competition held by the Ministry of Culture for his composition Prism (for orchestra).
▪ 2nd Prize at the Competition held by the Municipality of Athens for his composition Ulesses Adventures (for orchestra).
He has taken part three times in the International Days of Contemporary Music at Gaudeamus of Holland as well as inthe Global days of Music at Amsterdam in 1985. He is the artistic director of both the Conservatories "Nikos Skallkotas" and "Classical Conservatory".
