ZERBINOS CHRISTOS

Christos Zerbinos was born in Kalamata. At the age of 16, he completed his studies in accordion with T. Papastathopoulou - Mavrea. He then studied piano with Max Halleker, advanced theory with Konstantinos Nonis and composition with Theodoros Antoniou. Long before he completed his musical studies in composition, his pieces were played by several orchestras and chamber music groups.

In the mid eighties, with the encouragement and complete support of Th. Antoniou, he was the first Greek musician to include accordion among classical instruments, thus substantially contributing to its relation with this instrument and seeking new ways of expression in different and various musical areas, he discovered new techniques, thus creating a completely personal and special style that classifies him nowadays among the most significant accordion players of his generation.

He completed his studies in composition with the unanimous mark “excellent”, 1st Prize and monetary award in the memory of Manos Hatzidakis. At the same time, in his dual capacity of composer and soloist, he cooperated with the Kamerata - Orchestra of the Friends of Music, the Orchestra of Colours, the ALEA III of Boston, the Orchestra of Sofia Soloists, the Greek Symphonic Orchestra of the Greek Radio and Television (ERT), the Greek Contemporary Music Group, the Athenian Symphonic Municipal Orchestra, the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra, the Athenian Chamber Music Orchestra and other smaller Chamber Music groups.

Most of his pieces (symphonic, choral, chamber music, pieces for solo instruments, two concerts for accordion and orchestra, pieces of voice and orchestra) are ordered by Greek and foreign soloists, orchestras and chamber music groups, and assigned by several bodies such as the Athens Music Palace, the Association of Greek Composers, the 3rd Programme of the Greek Radio etc.

He has performed pieces written especially for him.

He is member of the Association of Greek Composers, leading member of the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra and teaches Advanced Theory in the “Athens Orfio” Conservatory.
