During this current period of profound economic and intellectual crisis, engagement with the arts altogether is considered by many, whether βspecialistsβ or not, βaccountableβ or not, as pointless and unnecessary. The purpose behind the publication of such a book lies at this exact point; in this book we document the experience of performing Icaromenippus at the 91st Primary School of Athens, presenting texts, curricula vitae, interviews, sheet music, photos and images, and audio and video recordings. During our undertaking this project, we believed that it was possible to i) introduce the great satirical writer of ancient times, Lucian, to children, ii) to introduce the genre of s.f. through the fascinating journey of Icaromenippus, and iii) to use the β possibly unfamiliar β theatrical technique of black light. We believe that these three points constitute three significant innovations in the context of the Greek public Primary School, as we presently know. This book is intentionally bilingual (Greek and English), as we hope that schools outside Greece may be interested in learning from our experience. In any case, we aim to inspire fellow educators to give birth to new ideas, creating manifold educational scenarios, and using their own ingenuity and imagination. Our main objective remains the development and cultivation of the studentsβ skills, and the creation of citizens within a creative, collective environment of solidarity and democratic thought.
